HOW DO I KNOW IF I SHOULD BE LICENSED?

Per the California B.A.R. (Bureau of Automotive Repairs), if you are a business that repairs and/or diagnoses malfunctions of motor vehicles for compensation, then you must be registered as an Automotive Repair Dealer through B.A.R.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE LICENSED?

Not only is it important for agencies to have regulatory standards in place, but having your B.A.R license protects you from unpaying customers. If you have worked on a vehicle, and are unlicensed, there is no way to legally hold a customer accountable for nonpayment. Repair fees cannot legally be charged as an unlicensed business.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO OBTAIN A B.A.R LICENSE?

After all documentation, and fees have been provided, it takes B.A.R approximately 14 days after receipt of application to either approve, or ask for further documentation. Once approved, your B.A.R license arrives shortly after.
